
About Zarinah
Zarinah El-Amin is a cultural anthropologist, consultant, and global entrepreneur from Detroit, Michigan. Motivated by experiencing the world and understanding more of the ways people express their humanness, Zarinah’s projects and businesses are centered around personal development, cross-cultural studies, and global travel.
Her current focuses include: Book Power Publishing which helps authors from fringe communities capture and share their stories, wisdom and knowledge with the world through books and self-publishing.
Enliven Your Soul, a transformative travel company that runs cultural events, personal development programs and global annual retreats centered around getting to know the world and yourself on a deeper level.
Beautifully Wrapped is Zarinah’s award winning, visual anthropological study of the global art of headwrapping. Her exhibit and workshops have been featured in libraries, universities and fairs across the US and in Dubai.
Her philanthropy is run by the Enliven Your Soul Foundation for Global Advancement, a 501c3 organization that organizes girls’ scholarships and supports development work in Sierra Leone and Senegal.
Zarinah holds a Bachelors of Science from the Mecca, Howard University, and a Masters of Anthropology from Western Michigan University. She has been featured on NPR, Fox, and many other outlets as well as honored with sharing her work through a TEDx talk.
She is the author of Beautifully Wrapped: The Global Tradition, Spirituality, and Culture of Headwrapping, The Book Power Method: How anyone can self-publish a book; At Their Feet: Stories of Black Muslim Elders; Jihad of the Soul: Singlehood and the Search for Love in Muslim America, and is currently working on a new project, Enliven Your Soul.
Finally, she is the mother of three brilliantly bright children and enjoys watching them pave their own unique paths in the world. One of her most quoted sayings is “Today is the first day of the rest of your life. Treat it accordingly.”
